Fun, Fun, Fun, Fun

Have you realized how different the path to stardom is these days? While on spring break I almost missed out on the discovery, extrapolation and dominance of America's newest "star."

The human torch was denied a bank loan.

Rebecca Black is the latest in a growing line of internet superstars. Her song, Friday gained attention after being featured on Daniel Tosh's blog a couple weeks ago and has since garnered over 61 million views on YouTube.

Are you kidding?

The days of actual stardom, it seems, are dwindling. Sure, you still have your movie stars, rock stars and star athletes but the easiest way to become rich and famous nowadays is to upload a YouTube video.

Antone Dodson did it.

Paul "Bear" Vasquez did it.

These are just some of the really big ones since this summer.

To top it off, musical geniuses add a base track to the video, auto-tune the voice and put some resemblance of rhythm into their dialogue.

I never thought I'd be on a boat.

Yes, it's funny. Yes, it's ridiculous. Yes, it's catchy.

Unfortunately, people with real talent aren't being discovered because of these YouTube stars. I suppose it's just natural though: develop a website where any idiot can post anything they want and you are going to get asinine videos that attract viewers.

These guys should be the next internet stars. Oh, and T-Pain too.

  1. THANK YOU for pointing out how ridiculous these people are. Seriously. It's absurd. That's all...

(I can't say more cause otherwise I'll go on a never ending rant about how much I hate America!)

  2. I'm proud to say I have no idea who Antone Dodson or Paul "Bear" Vasquez are...unfortunately I am aware of Rebecca Black and "I'm on a boat."

  3. I was horribly disappointed when I heard my brother sing Rebecca Black's praises...he's 25 and a DJ who usually has good taste in music.
I do like "I'm on a Boat" though. It's kind of crass, like most of The Lonely Island's stuff, but it's funny and Andy Samberg along with the other Lonely Island crew have worked hard to get to where they are. They made their way through obscure comedy clubs then as grunts writing for comedy shows such as SNL. While that doesn't necessarily indicate talent, they have at least paid their dues.

  4. I love "I'm on a Boat" as well as Lonely Island. I just included T-Pain because he is the grandfather of auto-tune. I wish T-Pain and Lonely Island made more songs together.
